上文报道中的tribute project就是献礼工程，也可以用gift project来表达。每到特殊日子，总有一些工程会举行groundbreaking ceremony（破土仪式）或是completion ceremony（竣工典礼）。按理说这种献礼工程应该能stand the test of time（经得住时间的考验），可事实是，由于rushed deadlines（赶工期）或是腐败等缘由致使的compromised standards（减少标准），这种工程总是建筑水平低劣。
近期揭秘最多的献礼工程莫过于Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway（京沪高铁）和Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Bridge（胶州湾跨海大桥），这两个工程都是建党90周年的献礼工程，结果京沪高铁在提前竣工后就发生了重大事故，胶州湾跨海大桥也是问题多多，连safety barriers（防护栏）都没建设完全。这种image project（形象工程）不止是资金人力的浪费，更是对人民生命安全的威胁。
